Communion As a Time of Judgment

Communion As a Time of Judgment

Jul 01, 2018

Passage: 1 Corinthians 11:17-34

Preacher: Dave Proulx

Series: Controversy In Corinth

Category: The Church, Grace, Judgment

Summary:

As Christians, we believe that Jesus' death on the cross worked because He was the only One who was worthy to die for our sins. And now, we are forgiven and promised a Life in eternity with Him. But when it comes to taking communion together, the very meal that is supposed to remind us of all of this, we are told to make sure to examine ourselves and confess our sins, or risk falling under God's judgment. So which is it? Are we forgiven or aren't we? Are we saved or is our salvation in jeopardy, depending on whether we confess our sins or not? The confusion about this idea comes from 1 Corinthians 11. Let's walk through this passage within the context that it was written and see if we can make sense of what Paul is saying to the church.
