Originally from Camp Living Waters in Luther, Michigan. I grew up at a Christian camp until the age of 16. I spent my summers with new friends every week. My brother and I rode our bikes through the woods, swam in the lake, ate camp food, and walked across the lake in the winter from our house to the camp.
My Junior year in high school my family moved 25 miles away to become the pastor of a small church in Tustin, Michigan. After high school, influenced by some counselors at Camp Living Waters, I attended Taylor University where I earned a degree in Elementary Education.
After moving I worked at Center Lake Bible Camp in Tustin, Michigan. I served in the kitchen, as child care for the full time camp staff, as a camp counselor and as a lead counselor. During one of these summers I met my wife Jennifer and we were married in 1997.
We have three children, Landon, Wyatt, and Ava. Landon, is an active teenager interested in bow hunting, horses, and any job he can get. Wyatt, is a creative tweenager who's interested in reading fantasy books, building and collecting Legos, and cartoon animation. Ava is a social girl who loves anything as long as she can do it with someone else. She especially loves playing games with anyone who's willing.
I have spent around 10 years in camping ministries, in almost every aspect. I've taught 2 years as a substitute teacher and 20 years as a middle school teacher, grades 5, 6, and 7.
I began serving as a volunteer youth leader at a church before my wife and I had our kids. We served for about 5 years, then took a break when the kids were young. Later I came back to serve as an interim youth director in that church, and helped begin a middle school ministry in that church with several other leaders.
My wife and I have been attending Battle Creek Community Church since August 2016. I currently serve as the Youth Director. I lead both the HSM (High School Ministry) and the MSM (Middle School Ministry) at Battle Creek Community Church while my wife works as a manager for the Battleground Skate House which is a ministry to skateboard, BMX, and scooter riders.
