Children’s Ministry Director

Summary

Battle Creek Community Church is a growing, vibrant church in Battle Creek, MI. that has nearly doubled in size over the past year. This has largely been due to the values our church holds of preaching and teaching the Word of God to all ages, and of living life together as family.

Since moving into our new building in September, our Children’s Ministry has grown from a few dozen children on a Sunday morning a year ago, to between 55-65 children now. Anticipating the need to oversee 100+ children on Sunday mornings in the future, the church has recognized the need to hire a full-time Children’s Director.

We are seeking an energetic candidate with the administrative and leadership skills needed to oversee a ministry of this size and, in partnership with parents, to disciple the children God is bringing into our church family.

This has also led us to make the decision to move to two services in the fall, requiring Children’s Ministry at both services.

General Duties and Responsibilities

The Children’s Director will oversee all areas of Children’s Ministry.
The areas of oversight include Birth-5^th grade.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Team Building

Identify and recruit volunteers who can:

• Oversee specific rooms or age groups
• Assist with crafts or other weekly projects
• Meet with the Children’s Director regularly to evaluate the ministry’s needs
• Recruit new teachers and volunteers for each classroom for each service
• Regularly train teachers and volunteers in their respective roles
• Maintain a culture of biblical literacy and discipleship
• Schedule qualified volunteers for each classroom for each service

Curriculum

Help select and implement the use of solid biblical curriculum that is:

• In line with BCCC’s theology (Doctrinal Statement and Values)
• In coordination with the Student Ministry Pastor (re: scope and sequence)

Classrooms

• Help determine the best use of classroom space
• Help determine the best age groups for each classroom space
• Create sanitation and safety protocols for each room
• Keep rooms looking neat, clean, and sanitized (including washing any soiled linens) 

Safety

In coordination with the Safety Team:

• Evaluate and address any safety concerns in each room
• Train volunteers on safety measures and best practices
• Ensure the safety of all those involved in Children’s Ministry
• Maintain an effective and secure check-in/check-out procedure
• Run background checks on all volunteers 

Parent Communication

• Provide tools for parents to equip their children spiritually at home
• Communicate regularly with parents (Updates on curriculum, program changes, milestones, celebrations, etc.)

Staff Requirements

• Create and effectively manage the Children’s Ministry budget
• Hold regular office hours and attend Staff Meetings as required
• Meet with the Pastor for updates and reviews of the ministry
• Be willing and able to work constructively with other BCCC Staff Members

Personal Expectations

1. Must be a follower of Jesus Christ
2. Must know the Bible well enough to lead other teachers in discipling children through 5^th grade
3. Must have 5+ years of experience in a Christian ministry context, ideally leading a ministry
4. Must complete and pass a personal background check
5. Must become a Member of BC Community Church
6. Must become First Aid and CPR certified
7. Must align with the Mission, Vision, and Values of BCCC.

Accountability

The Children’s Director will report to the Lead Pastor.
